Do I really need a Web site?
In today's world, everyone needs a Web site. The real question is how big and technical.
In this day and time, no one uses the phone book or directory assistance to find information.
They find information online at their fingertips.
Can I Afford a Web Site?
KFPdesigns.com builds custom sites to fit within a budget. Many clients tell us how much they can afford and in most cases we can design a site to fit within that budget.
A lot of clients want a one-page site that gives the company information like address, what it sells and the contact information.
How much do most Web sites cost?
That all depends on the size of the site, how much work it would take, the amount of high-level programming and other factors.
For example, having a flash animation would require more time and cost more.
We do not believe in cookie-cutter pricing because every client has a need that is different.
However, here are some general price ranges you may consider when deciding what your site needs.
$400 - $600 average cost for up to six pages.
We do not charge a lot of money for additional pages. The amount of time is placed on building the first page.
The additional charges depends on the number of pages and how long it would takes to design them.
As mentioned before, some clients may have a $200 or $300 budget and we design a simple site for them.
Many families have these types of sites for their friends and relatives to review updated pictures..
SAMPLES,
www.C93fm.com - Required a comprehensive design with lots of pictures, edited pictures, flash animation (top right), .gif animation and an almost daily update.
Besides news and sports updates, the ads on the site are often changed.
After the initial design, the updates are charged on a per hour basis.
Other radio stations may also purchase this same layout design for its Web site.
Since the site has already been designed, the cost of the site would be lower.
Some sites may be exclusive for the client.
www.isomdays.com - Required flash animation, a yearly update, minor updates prior to event time, and a photo album after the event.
This client is charged a one-time fee yearly.
Is there any way of receiving a discount on a Web site?
Under the right circumstances arrangements may be made to lessen your cost.
For example, continuing to look at c93fm.com, which is a high-traffic radio station Web site, we have a banner on the right side of the site.
Those conditions are rare. Basically the higher traffic volume, the more enticing it is for us to promote ourselves through your site and save you money.
You may also enquire about the use of other similar sites and save money.
To qualify, a site must not be competing with the other site.
For example, two companies trying to sell merchandise over the internet would be competing.
A radio station in Tennessee would not be competing with a radio station in California.
What all do I need to have before you begin?
1 - The number of pages, an ideal of the style of design, if you need flash animation, a shopping cart, or other add-ons.
If you are not sure, we can help you decide what is needed and what is "just for show."
2 - Your information that would be included on the site. Please have the information in Microsoft Word, text, or some kind of format that is easy to copy and paste.
3 - Any personal pictures that you want on the site.
4 - See terms below.
We prefer a cd containing all your information. However, we do understand that time is a factor in most cases and will accept the information by e-mail.
What are the terms for Web site design?
50-percent down and 50-percent once completed.
What if I do not like the site?
After the initial design (where the front page is almost complete,) you will be given a link to view the site and approve it.
Any flash animation would not be compete at this time.
You will also be given a link to view some of the progress of the page at various stages.
At any time, if you are not satisfied, let us know and we will work to fix the problem.
We strive for satisfaction.
How many site updates do I get?
That all depends on how often your site needs updated.
Some sites are designed and never updated. Others are updated almost daily and the client is charged per hour.
The most common client requires an "occasional easy" update.
We do not charge for "occasional easy" updates, as long as we do not have to spend more than a few minutes occasionally and host the site.
For example, one client that is a painter needed four paintings on his site.
When we were contacted he said he was almost complete with two more paintings would need them added when complete.
We designed the site with room to put in the new paintings and already had the code in place, just not visible.
When the new paintings were complete, we received an e-mail with the scanned pictures.
Within five-minutes, the pictures and Web site was loaded and ready to go.
Since then he added another painting and was not charged either time.
Event sites like isomdays.com require "yearly" updates with "additional updates" prior to event time.
With event sites like these, the concert start times, sponsors and other information are often changed during the days leading up to the event.
A site like this would require a yearly charge or be charged on a per hour basis.
How often your site needs updated needs to be discussed prior to the design.
How long does it take to build and design a site?
That all depends on your needs. A site may take a few days, others longer.
We hear clients say, "But the company that originally designed my site done it in 30-minutes."
If a site is designed that fast, they are using the same template for all their clients.
An artist's Web site is vastly different from a festival or radio station site.
A basic design time would be given during the initial conversation.
Do you use frames?
No. Very rarely. The use of frames is an easy design, but not good for the client.
Many companies use frames so they can use the same design over and over again.
The first reason it is not good to use frames is because most computers still have smaller monitors.
A lot of Webmasters never look at a site on a smaller screen to see how it looks.
We do. We look at the page from several dimensions.
The results of frames are the use of several smaller pages that are loaded onto one main page, with the top, bottom and side placed around like a frame leaving room in the middle for content.
If someone has a small screen, the majority of the screen may be used by the top and bottom.
The middle content and side links and information may not all be seen.
Another reason not to use frames it because many search engines will not read more than the first frame.
It would believe your Web site to only have one top picture.
These types of search engines will not list your site if you only have one picture on the page.

What is a domain name? Do I need one? How does it work?
Your Web site content sits on a computer with a unique address called an IP address.
An IP address is made up of a series of numbers, such as 123.23.234.45.
Your domain name directs visitors to your site using this IP address.
www.mysite.com is easier to type and remember than 123.23.234.45.
No one would visit your site without one.
All your domain name questions can be found through our domain help center.
What is hosting? Do I need it?
Your Web site must be loaded on a computer that is connected to the internet for anyone to find it.
A domain name directs people to that computer, known as a server.
Hosting is the renting of server space to store your information.
There may be times when several hundred people are on your site at the same time.
Our servers are connected to the internet through a large connection that can handle the traffic volume.
Our servers are monitored 24/7.
If you design a Web site for me, do I have to host it through you as well?
No. You may host through which ever company you want.
Make sure to tell us what type of server you would be using, each server reacts differently to codes.
Can I host adult content?
No. There are several items that are not allowed, including adult content, explicit language, alcohol and tobacco sales, the promotion of illegal products and others.
This is just a partial listing. Make sure you read our legal agreements before signing up with a hosting account.
We also do not allow spam from any e-mail address.
I registered a domain through another company, can I forward it to your hosting servers?
That depends on your company that registered the domain name.
Most companies that register domains will allow the site to be transferred to any host by a simple change of DNS settings.
Some companies do not allow it unless your site is hosted with them.
Contact the company and ask them.
If not, you can transfer most domain names to our servers for $9.99 per year.
I want to register several domain names and have them all go to the same Web site. Is that possible?
Yes. It's called "Web site forwarding" or "Web site masking."
With Web site forwarding, the other domain names would be re-directed to the main domain.
With Web site masking the site would appear to be the site they typed in.
For example, our site is KFPdesigns.com. We could us wateverdomaindesigns.com and have the site appear to the second domain if that is the entry point.
Remember, the content would be the same.
Which hosting package should I choose?
It depends on your needs. The most popular package is deluxe plan. It is your standard Web site hosting package.
The Premium Plan would be for very high traffic sites.
Should I choose a Windows or Linux server?
That depends on what your site needs. Review the "Compare Windows" and "Compare Linux" on our hosting page.
Will I save money buy purchasing a domain or hosting for more than a year?
Yes. Our plans are setup to save money for long-term clients.
A .com domain name would be $9.99 per year if purchase it each year.
If you purchase it for 10-years, it would only be $7.85 per year.
Our hosting plans are designed the same way.
